On 13/6/2022 Star sports India spent 23575crores to secure IPL broadcasting Rights for a five year Period.50% Share of BCCI and 50 % shares these media rights amount with all IPL teams.

India Viacom 18& Times internet- Digital rights 20500 crore .




SPONSORSHIP is the most important source of income for IPL franchises.If we look at any IPL teams IPL Uniform,we can find Plethora of Brands Logos.These brand businesses pay the teams big money to promote their brands.

Like In 2020 Dream 11 was the sponsor and paid a fee of 222 crores and in 2021 Vivo acquired the sponsorship rights with 440 crores and for 2022 and 2023 the sponsor is TATA with around 500 crores.

Merchandising:

Sale of Jersey,Caps,Kits are one of the good source of revenue of IPL teams.Around 15-20% from merchandising.

Selling stake:

CVC Capital Partners paid around $736 million for the new franchise Gujrat titans.

RPSG, owned by Sanjiv Goenka paid around $964 million for the new Lucknow team.

The GMR company purchased Delhi capitals for $84million.

Ticket sales/gate revenue

Around 15-20% of the total revenue is generated by teams from ticket sales. Franchises in home matches gets a 70-80% share of the revenue.

IPL Prize money & Player trading

IPL Prize money is another source of income for IPL franchises.Teams are awarded based on there performance in the IPL season like Gujrat Titan won the IPL and earned a Prize money of 20 crore and LSG Pocketed 6.5 crore for finishing 4TH sport.

Every year,at the IPL auction,a transfer window is provided for a set amount of time.talented players are traded for 2-3x price than there base price.For example- Ishan kishan was picked up by Mumbai Indians for 15.25 crore,highest for any player so far and Deepak chahar was sold to Chennai Super kings for 14 crore..


What do the teams look for when they Invest in IPL So much?

The answer is BRAND VALUE.

Kolkata Knight Riders- INR 543 crores.

Delhi capitals –INR 370 Crores.
